      *    A.          Request Approval of Minutes of Regular Board Meeting of January 11, 2012 (#2091)

 

      *    B.          Request Approval of Purchase Order Exceeding $100,000

                          The Head Start Program is implementing Outdoor Learning Environments to maximize instruction and learning time.  The play areas will be upgrades to support this strategy.  Administration recommends approval of purchase order exceeding $100,000.

 

      *    C.          Request Approval of a Resolution in Support of February 2012 as National African American History Month

                          Through the work of Harvard-trained historian Dr. Carter G. Woodson, the precursor of African American History Month was first celebrated in February 1926 during a week that encompassed the birthdays of both Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass.  The celebration was expanded to Black History Month in 1976, the nation’s bicentennial.  Administration recommends adoption of the resolution in support of February 2012 as National African American History Month.

 

10.       ACTION ITEMS  

 

      *    A.          Request Adoption of a Revised Budget for the Quarter Ending December 31, 2011

                          This proposed budget revision reflects changes to the SCCOE 2011-12 Annual Budget from October 1, 2011 through December 31, 2011.  Administration recommends adoption of the Budget Revisions for the period ending December 31, 2011.

 

      *    B.          Action Plan for School Anti-Bullying Task Force    

                          An Advisory Council to eradicate bullying in county schools was formed by Santa Clara County Board of Education President Joseph Di Salvo.  The Advisory Council presented their findings and recommendations on November 16, 2011. President Di Salvo requested that the County Office of Education provide an action plan outlining next steps relative to these recommendations.  Administration recommends reviewing the action plan and accepting the anti-bullying policy for a first reading.

 

11.       INFORMATION ITEMS

           

      *    A.          Annual Report to the Board:  Silicon Valley Flex Academy

                          The County Board of Education has invited charter schools for which they are the authorizers to give a short presentation during a regularly scheduled County Board meeting.  Silicon Valley Flex Academy will give a 10 minute oral presentation on selected highlights from their 2011-12 Annual Report.

 

      *    B.          Annual Report to the Board:  Discovery Charter School

                          The County Board of Education has invited charter schools for which they are the authorizers to give a short presentation during a regularly scheduled County Board meeting.  Discovery Charter School will give a 10 minute oral presentation on selected highlights from their 2011-12 Annual Report.

 

      *    C.          SJ/SV2020 Presentation

                          Dr. Charles Weis, Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools, will present on the SJ2020 Annual Report and 2020 Vision Awards event, which was given at the Santa Clara County Office of Education on January 19, 2012.  The Board will discuss the criteria used for selection of award recipient schools and the plans to refine and improve these criteria for future awards.

 

      *    D.          2011 Annual Williams Report

                          As per Education Code 1240 F, the county superintendent has submitted this annual report to the governing board of each school district, the county board of education, and the board of supervisors reflecting the findings of the 51 schools in 12 school district that were subject to instructional materials and facilities monitoring in fall 2011. 

  

      *    E.          Review Board Subcommittee Assignments  

The Board President will present the subcommittee assignments for the 2012 year.
